Google Earth goes Hi Res

This week Google launched GeoEye , the world's highest resolution imaging satellite.
I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Farewell to a friend

Our family was shaken by the recent passing of our friend and neighbor
Don Lafontaine.
Don was one of the good guys. Recognized as the top performer in the voice over world, Don lived his life like everyday was a gift. Over 600 people showed up for a tribute that was held for him at the Writers Guild Theatre.

It was an evening that I will never forget.

Below is a statement that my friend Broderick Miller wrote about the tribute:

"We were all privileged to celebrate Don’s life through video/audio
clips and the moving remembrances of family and friends. We learned
more about Don’s decency, integrity, honesty, generosity, loyalty and
enormous sense of humor than we could have possible known. One thing
came out so clearly, again and again: Don adored his wife and
daughters. And he gave more of himself to this community than any of
us could ever have known. He cared for the kids in the theatre group
as if they were his own and was always offering new ways to help us
out. Hosting cast parties, lending his voice to our show intros,
professionally filming our productions, supporting the theatre group
with faith and energy…and it was all pure, all good, never cynical.

Something happened Tuesday night, and I think it snuck up on all of
us. We said goodbye to a larger-than-life force of talent and
kindness, but we also were given a gift. We were given a powerful
example and inspiration to be better in our own lives – better
friends, better fathers, better husbands, better mentors and better
human beings. Thank you, Don, for impacting us in this very
meaningful way".

He was simply the best.

Speed Week

Last week I traveled to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah to witness many loud vehicles going extremely fast.

That's Big

One of my favorite places in Southern California is Edwards Air Force Base.
It sits next to a huge dry lake bed located north of Los Angeles in the Mojave Desert.
At this location, Chuck Yeager flew a jet faster that the speed of sound for the first time. In the early days of flight testing, Edwards was the center of the universe. The space shuttle made It's first landing there and still occasionally lands when the weather is bad in Florida.
Today it remains a very active place.
I've had the good fortune of shooting several assignments there as well as attending many air shows.
Above is an image provided by NASA that shows a huge compass rose that is painted on the lake bed. It's used to assist pilots adjust heading indicators. The runways are some of the longest on  Earth.

Mancation -Zihuatanejo

I recently reconnected with some former Dana Hills High School football teammates for fishing and debauchery in the beautiful Mexican town of Zihuatenejo.

I highly recommend the Catalina Beach Resort.

"Teatro Della Morte"

About nine years ago, a group of  local parents formed the Silver Lake Children's Theatre Group.
We've been staging two theatre productions a year.
We're a community based, all volunteer non profit group that has cast members that represent about twenty schools around the Los Angeles area.
I've been privileged to be the groups Vice President and Executive Producer. As Producer, I'm involved in pretty much all aspects of the show.
The collage above is from "Teatro Della Morte ". Our most recent production that took place in a circus tent.
For about more "Teatro Della Morte "

First Car

My daughter Hannah now owns the streets of Silver Lake and Los Feliz.
The 1989 Volvo 240 DL is a dependable, safe, stylish first car.
Complete with Ipod dock and new speakers.

Like most photographers, I was sorry to hear that Polaroid was no longer going to produce its amazing product. Everyone had to appreciate the magic, one of a kind quality of a Polaroid. How could a photographer correctly expose a color transparency without looking at a Polaroid? Digital changed all of that. Below is a link to an article about a quick printer in development that fulfills the instant gratification that only a Polaroid could deliver.

First post!
I thought that I'd dip my toe into the blogosphere by sharing
a video of a guy from Switzerland who has balls of brass.
